[DeTomaso] Aftermarket Disc Brake System for a 1973 Pantera

A properly working stock brake system is more than adequate for street use,
though the rock hard stock pads should definitely be replaced. Porterfield
makes a nice set of performance street (& light track) pads that fit the
stock Girling calipers. The original front calipers are large, 4-piston
affairs and though heavy (cast iron) are more than adequate for the street.
Even the relavitely puny stock rear calipers are acceptable with new
performance pads. If the stock calipers are working or rebuildable, I'd
stick with them unless you've got serious bucks burning a hole in your
pocket.

If you really need to replace the stock brakes, Gary Hall sells a Super
Stopper II system - consisting of vented rotors, C-4 Corvette aluminum
front/rear calipers w/mounting brackets, braided stainless lines, plus a
booster and master cylinder. The SSII is a significant upgrade (especially
at the rear), retains the stock emergency brake function, is of all GM
origin (off-the-shelf replacement parts), and bolts on in a day (well maybe
a long day). The C-4 calipers also have boots around the exposed piston
ends to keep out road trash and dust, unlike the Wilwood racing calipers. I
had this system for several years and it was perfect for high performance
street and track event use. I eventually swapped out most the SSII system
for Wilwood calipers/rotors only because I was occasionally fading the
fronts duing very heavy braking at the track. I still use the rear SSII
calipers/rotors though.

I am looking for a good street disc brake system for my 1973 pantera. I
want the most bang for the buck. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
