No, I would loosen the bolts as much as possible keeping the nuts attached 
to the bolt.  This practice make it easier when reassembling.  Also, with 
the ZF out, replace the studs that hold on the ears with allen head bolts. 
In the future, you will be able to remove the ears and slip the ZF straight 
back without jacking the engine.
