That's a good point. I've built a really good relationship with
specific people at the Napa store, and it certainly is the older folks
who seem to be able to help out a lot more. Recently when I was in the
store, I'd say almost every one of the younger folks working the counter
at one point had to ask the old fart where to find something -odd- and
not in the regular books.
It really is amazing what they -do- have, but just don't know they have.
Sometimes you need to start with the phrase "I'm making some
modifications and need to look at accessories, not standard parts."
Napa reps a ton of accessory lines that have nothing to do with year,
make and model. Sometimes, if you find something really close to what
you want on the shelf, they'll know what catalog to go to, then you can
simply page through it to find the exact thing you want.
Best to go when they are not too busy either, as more customers tend to
spin them into high-speed year/make/model service mode. Oh, and I do
imagine this would hold true for just about any auto parts store,
Shucks/Kragen, Pep Boys, Motion Auto, etc.
