[DeTomaso] MTBE (no longer) in Ca Gas...

Jack,

I believe a law passed last year, which should have taken affect 1/1/06, now
bans/removes MTBE from California gas fuels.

And there always some gas brands that specified they do not contain MTBE
(Union 76 was one).

Parks required that boaters and Jet skiers show a RECENT fuel receipt from a
non-MTBE station.

Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] Gas Tank Sealer

John, I've not used Eastwood's product, but I have used other such
tank-coaters, and most compounds need the tank violently agitated after
adding the mix,
to properly distribute it over the whole inside of the tank . In a Pantera
or
most other cars, this requires having the tank out of the car- no small job
for us. Second, many such compounds are attacked by California gasoline that
contains MTBE and other toxic solvents. The dried coatings then flake off
and
clog fuel filters, pumps and carb/efi systems. Some alcohols also attack the
coatings. I'd ask the Eastwood rep lots of questions. What seems to be the
problem that would need such an internal coating? Curious- JDeRyke
