[DeTomaso] Tire and Wheel sizes

Hope I'm posting right, it's my first time. I'm finalizing the purchase of a 72L this weekend. YEAH! Now comes the fun...I've been looking at tire and wheel replacements. Stock tires are trash with cracks everywhere. I like the looks of the Campy repo's from Panter East in 17"x11" back and 16"x8" front. But it's been suggested not to go with the 11" wide wheel and a 335 tire in the rear because it overpowers the 16x8 fronts and creates substantial understeer. Looks great but doesn't drive well? Thoughts and experiences?
