[DeTomaso] advice needed

I'd personally never go see that guy again, but that's just me. (Just
watch it be someone I already know)

I run KB Hypereutectic pistons, a hydraulic roller cam, an external oil
line, with two quart accumulator, blah, blah, blah. It runs great, on the
street even.

I run a stock rebuilt damper from Damper Dudes.

My oil accumulator does -not- take a lot of pressure to pump up, there is
a procedure for properly pressuring the tank with air, follow it.

If they have a special "secret" oil mod and won't divulge any of it, I'd
walk away, and walk away fast. The last thing I need is some "secret" mod
to my engine that makes it harder to figure out the next failure.

I've seen plenty of people on this forum talk about using accumulators,
oil coolers, have hydraulic roller cams installed, etc. Most of this
stuff seems pretty tame really, which makes me wonder what they are
smoking. (again, I'll probably regret that statement once I know who the
engine builder is)

As for the cam, if you look at the original cam offered by Ford Racing
(then Ford Motorsport) as a flat-tappet replacement, it was a 560 lift,
with 292 duration. I ran one for years and it ran great on the street,
-and- the strip (I have a couple of trophies to prove it).

When I was talking with engine builders, they were trying to point me to
600 lift flat tappet cams. A 560 is a no brainer.

It really boils down to what you want to use the engine for; depending on
how you want to use the car. Some things, like the oil cooler, you don't
really need for the street, but if you go ORR racing a lot, then you might
want one.

Did they ask you how you want to drive the car? What did they suggest for
a cam? For a balancer, for oiling, for pistons, etc? What is it -they-
thought you should build?
