[DeTomaso] Tire Choice for 17 inch wheels

Here is a tip for you guys ordering tires from Tire Rack. I have my
tires mounted by a wheel shop. They sell high dollar bling bling wheels.
If they screw one up mounting it they eat the cost. They do know how to
mount a tire without destroying the wheel and they have the proper
machine to do it. The one that I use doesn't even leave the "bite marks"
in the back of the rim. Their machine hooks the edge of the rim to clamp
it.
They even like to see me come in with my ugly tires. They are wrestling
with 90 lb. wheels most of the day and all I ask them to do is put a
very stiff Hoosier or Kumho on a 9 to 15 lb. wheel. The 17X11 Kodiak is
only 18 lbs.

Hey Mike, I was also looking at those tires. They sure are cheap!! I
don't know but I get a bad feeling about a tire that is half the price
of the all other tires in that size.
What are you going to put on the front? I think I am going to go with
BFG 315/35/17 G-Force TA KD for the rear and BFG KDW TA TT (traditional
tread) 245/45/16 on the front.
The standard KDW has a tread pattern that I dont like but I found out
the tire comes in a traditional tread pattern that is very similiar to
the TA KD. I like the idea of
having similiar make tire on f/r. The price I'm getting from my local
tire place (Discount Tire) is $1100 for all. I priced them on TireRack
and they come out to
$805 including shipping. I would still have to have them mounted and
balanced but I doubt that will cost $300 dollars so I might just buy
them from TireRack and save some money. No hurry to decide since there
is no sign of our wheels!!!

Any tire experts out there?
Well, now that I broke the bank buying my new Kodiak wheels (haven't
arrived yet), I can't splurge for the top-of-the-line tires. I ordered
315/35/17 Sumitomo HTRZ from Tirerack, but they phoned me and are
essentially refusing to sell them to me claiming the tire may not be
hearty enough for the Pantera. They are not actually sure, because they
can't find official weight stats on the Pantera. The max load rating for
the tire is 1433 lbs. Is that really a problem? Are they:
a) really looking out for me?
b) just trying to push me into a pricier tire?
c) nuts?
The tire's reviews are good and the comparison report ranks them
favorably. tire spec:
