<Successful race engine builders used to specify 4000 feet per second piston
speed as the 'safe' upper limit- the so-called 'redline'. I think that's
maybe
gone up to about 4500 ft/sec with recent alloys & computerized
stress-analysis
designs. That critical piston speed will vary inversely with the stroke of
your engine: the formula is-
Cm= 0.166 x crank stroke x 4000
where Cm = engine rpms for any stroke @ 4000 ft/sec piston speed.>

you meen 4000 ft/ min thats ( 4000 * 0,3048m / 60 = 20,32 m)
not 4000ft/ sek..

( 20,32m/s * 60s / 3,5" * 0,0254m * 2 = 6857 rpms)

so that meens that :
( 4500ft/min * 0.3048m / 60s = 22,86 m)

and a 383 stroke has a rev limmit at
( 22,86m/s * 60s / 3,75" * 0,0254m * 2 = 7200 rpms)

and a 408 stroke has:
(22,86m/s * 60s / 4.0" * 0,0254m * 2 = 6750 rpms)

and a 351 has
(22,86m/s *60s / 3,5" *0,0254m * 2 = 7714 rpms)

is that correct?
