What are these pick up points? Are you talking about where the upper and
lower control arms attach to the chassis? If so... can't I cut them off and
reweld them if I have the car on a frame machine and just measure up to where the
other side is so they are both at a even height off the ground? >>
Yes, assuming the a-arms are symmetric. On quite a few cars, the right front
wheel protrudes noticably more than the left front. So if you used the one
positioned furthest-out as your 'zero' point, and redid the other 3 to keep
more-or-less stock 4-corner geometry, it should work. Otherwise, you'd have to
somehow reposition inboard the frame areas that the pickup tabs are welded to,
since the tabs themselves have little 'meat'. That sorta spounds like "rebuild
the whole front clip". And keep firmly in mind that you may be betting your life
on the quality of the welding.... Other approaches might be to use asymmetric
wheels offsets or rework the fenders themselves for even tire/fender gaps. Or
simply not install the absolute ultimate-width tires. Note that all this
probably doesn't apply as much to the rears as to the fronts. My 2¢- J DeRyke
