[DeTomaso] [NPC] Catalytic Converters

Its such a common problem that GM actually did a recall on their Cal cats
back a few years. Problem can be the guts of the converter corroding away so that
suddenly the whole insides fall apart and almost totally plug the exhaust.
This is the old 'potato-in-the-tailpipe syndrome. Happened to our '82 Z-28 and a
friends '92 Corvette on a return from 'Vegas. The Z-28 at full throttle in
2nd gear could not clear a small rise in the pavement, overheated & had to be
flat-towed home. The 'Vette was further away from home & wound up being
flat-bedded 250 miles- at owners expense of course. Take the cat off; if the engine
suddenly runs decently again, thats the problem. Good luck- J DeRyke
