[DeTomaso] Anyone have experience with the air flow in the
rearwheel wells?

Ken,
I don't believe it would work. Oil coolers are designed much different.
The fins are far apart and the core is nothing more than the oil line with
the fins arrayed to diffuse and spread out the air. Intercoolers are thick
and need the air to be pushed or pulled through. The entire ambient air
entry surface needs to have direct air flow. The internal portion of the
core is designed to flow high volumes of air via forced induction with
minimal pressure drop. Most intercoolers are identical on the inside as well
as the outside. As for as adding fans to assist in that location, it may
work. Grand nationals had fans on their intercoolers. They were puller
setups. There down fall was that the intercooler was behind the radiator, so
the air that entered the cooler had to pass through the radiator first. This
caused the air to be heated up before entry into the intercooler. I told you
before how I mounted a pair with the ambiant entry being face down with
scoops that rammed the air into the cooler from the bottom of the car. This
worked quite well, but only a suggestion.....
