I think you will find that all Allison V12 right from the beginning were
supercharged. The supercharger was simple centrifugal charger mounted
in
the accessory housing and run off of the flexible vibration damper.
Later
versions had a two stage supercharger. What made the engine work in the
P-38 and others was that they were turbo-supercharged. It had both an
internal supercharger and an external supercharger.
