Now there would be a nice target for the socal smog police! 2-stroke,
v-12, at over 1500 cubic inches and 5000 HP!

JB - would need 1500 cubic dollars for that one

I want to install a Rollsy Royce Crecy. The Crecy was a response to a
1936
Sir Harry Ricardo proposal for a high power, small frontal area 2 stroke
supercharged engine. For various reasons, the contract was not issued
until
July 1939. The Crecy was a supercharged, liquid-cooled, 26.1 liter, 90
degree, sleeve-valve, V-12, with mechanical fuel injection (based upon
the
Focke Wolf 190 injection). One prototype was tested at 5000 HP, ran for
6000 hours, and had better fuel consumption than the much less powerful
Merlin. Plus the 2 stroke exhaust provided a considerable thrust boost.
However, by the time the last of the prototypes were built, the jet
engines
of Frank Whittle and Hans von Ohain had proven where the future of
fighter
aircraft engines would be. Rolls itself had already started delivering
operational gas turbines so development on the piston engines ceased.
Rolls
Royce also had the 24 cylinder H-type 4 stroke Eagle II rated at 3600 HP
with plans for 6000 HP under development but it too was cancelled in
favor
of jet engines.
