[DeTomaso] Radiator Coolant Inline Filter Source

I've got a Tefba mounted on mine and have had no issues. It was kind of a
b*tch to get it installed due to space restrictions - just before the swirl
tank. But it works as advertised and I'm happy.
I'd respectfully submit that if you follow the directions, you should have
no problems!! ;-)
I have photos of the before, during, and after installation if you are
curious, but there is really no mystery.

>>>You are talking about Gano filters, which are made in Los Gatos, CA.
A similar filter is made by Tefba in Australia.
Here's a link to a Jaguar page that shows dramatic results of using these
kinds of filters:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/CoolantFilters.html
Gano filters are widely available from many different sources; I just
reached
for the top catalog on my shelf, which happened to be Mustangs Plus in
Stockton, CA,
(www.mustangsplus.com, or (800) 999-4289)
and they list three different Gano filters.
Small is 1 1/8-1 3/8 inches,
Medium is 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches
Large is 1 7/8-2 1/8 inches
All three retail for $36.95.
They also make a 'racing' version with a brass body instead of clear
plastic;
that one is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches and costs $49.95.
I used one of the regular Gano filters about 10 years ago, with very mixed
results.
The filter itself was extremely effective and worked exactly as advertised;
it was absolutely astounding how much CRAP was circulating in my cooling
system, just waiting to plug up my radiator. However, I suffered two
failures, due
in part to failing to heed the instructions which tell you to safety-wire
the
two hose clamps together. In my front-engined application, romping on the
gas
caused the motor to torque on the motor mounts, and popped the hose off one
end of the filter, at which point the motor pumped all its radiator fluid
out
onto the ground. :<(
If the filter was placed in a benign location, i.e. a location that didn't
experience regular movement, it would probably be excellent. I would
recommend
one of the hoses leading to the radiator.
The filter may need frequent inspection and cleaning, because if the filter
plugs up, you're in big trouble! It may be safer to not run a filter at
all,
and let some junk plug a part of your radiator, versus running a filter and
ignoring it, and having it plug your coolant hose, thus rendering your
radiator
totally useless!
