I just finished reading my old list volumes and see I didn't miss much since
I
am not much of a poly-sci advocate.
I have spent the last several months working on the car getting ready
with the following problems or items to be resolved before Vegas:
1. replaced the cam as the rocker fell off and beat the cam up
2. chased several msd problems mostly due to wires riding on the pulleys
3. change the water pump to a shorter one for the flat kit
4. relocated the alternator for the flat panel kit
5. worked with the welder as we refabricated the water tube to go above the
alternator
6. modified the Quella flat panel to clear the windsor upper tube and fan belt
7. drained the tank three times to rework -10 SS AN lines that started to
seep after one year
8. replaced the rear window broken on Easter Sunday trying to get the roll
cage installed
9. Cut the $2000 rollcage out with a hacksaw to get access to the window
repair
10. Had a fabricator install a new 4 point cage (Welded in) since the other
one is cut up
11. replaced the carpet since it was torn up welding the mounts for the cage
12. remounted all the belts and seats after the cage and carpet were done
13. reworked the console to fit the new flat panel and had it recovered
14. recovered the door panels to match the new flat panel and console
15. modified and refabricated the upper trims at the head liner
16. installed a new headliner several times as I used the wrong material
initially
17. adjusted the valves twice with new locks so I don't lose the rocker again
18. new aldin shocks and with 400 and 700 lb springs-(Ask Byers about the
pass)
19. new steering rod ends
20. alignment update with corner weighting- car weighs 3040 without gas or me
21. new kumo V710 DOT road race tires on the kinesis wheels
The two months before Vegas were dedicated to the Pantera.
The car was fighting me all the way but in the end it all came together
I was even trying to install a mirror (I broke it) in the parking lot at
Vegas since the
new cage would not let the stock mount work.
The results:
The car ran great and was hauled and driven (yes I had the 80mph ticket)
to and from the track on and off the trailer- street tires on and off
several times. I watched Quella and Escahoff dirt tracking off the track in
the race..
Car was the fastest Street Pantera third pantera and fifth overall.
(And for the record I did not hold Quella off for 5 laps he just backed off
until the last lap due to a leaking oil line and then passed me on the back
straight.
I did have a fitting on the carb leaking on the car on the way to
the track on race day and almost packed it in but fixed it and keep going.
I still had to back off on several turns or run them in 3rd to keep the oil
temp
off the 280 peg on the gauge. Changing to synthetic oil and see it that will
take care of it.
I talked and met many of my Pantera brothers- including Randy who made
Leno's monster roadster (really a neat guy), Mike and Lyle from the new
Washington chapter (who the cop passed by to give me the ticket), Coz
who is a class act, Webbers Dailey along with many more.
I also had a lot of help at the track from my buddy Ron McCall wresltling the
tires
and keeping an eye on things.
I got to bring Brett Santos son of our passed member Bill and spent some
quality
time with him and a chance for him to continue to be with our Pantera
brothers.
It was a long several months, I have several trophies and the pink piece of
paper
and I also won the grand price Kodiac Wheels. It was all worth it but boy
am I tired.
Time to get ready for the Silver State next week!!!!!
