The only one of the guys using 180s that dynoed before & after was Jr Wilson
& his monster motor, and he said 180s slightly increased mid-range but cost
him 200 revs on the top end. So he took them off after one SS run. If this holds
true, its probably simple gas friction in the much longer tubes that limit
top end power; longer primary tubes will usually increase mid-range torque by
resonance.

I raced a set of Hall 180s for a dozen or so events and the exceptionally
sweet sound they produce will coax you to stay in the gas a few milliseconds too
long- I spun more during that year than ever before or since. Working on an
engine with 180s is not much fun from the top, especially changing plugs, and if
you install 180s, be sure to add a heat shield & stand-offs under the
decklid, or they will destroy your paint near the window opening. With no heat
shield, a 40 mile run to the track BOILED the decklid paint in two 12" dia. spots!
Good luck- J DeRyke
