No Mike, your computer is dead, DEAD. I will hit it with a hammer, al a
Monty Python
(Bring out your dead...) I had a laptop with the same power connector
problem, eventually,
it sparked wildly and could have fried some electronics like the disk. I
took it to the gun range for fun.
I AM SURE YOU HAVE A FULL (transportable) BACK UP, right Mike?
Mike you should have waited to post.
After stirring up 'debate' and waking up the masses and lurkers, my next
post, would be to offer a contest.
IF someone can deliver
a better computer (apple or PC) before I fix my (other) old one for you,
then you get the best available.
The apple fans have to hurry!
My old laptop actually has near current SW, Adobe PhotoShop, WORD, and so
much more.
(Even video monitor your garage world wide)
It would even come with $12.99/Mo T1 DSL, to upgrade Mike while at home.
But what Kirby just offered may be slightly better, at least to keep you
stuff in apple pie.
Mike I suggest you QUICKLY move a few steps forward. Welcome to the 1990's!
Chuck

I'm gonna have to side with Mike on this one. He is very familiar with
the products on Mac that he needs to use in order to get Profiles out.
I
would suggest he go with Mac again. It's can be a pretty steep learning
curve to move to PC and XP (not to mention the frustration.
>>>Indeed--I work with PCs in the office, and while they are fine for
some things, I would never consider owning one.

have a
Mac, but I'd like to talk with him about what he's going through. Isn't
he still in Spain?
>>>"Nonsense! It's just a flesh wound!" (from Monty Python) :>)
The reports of my computer's demise have been GROSSLY exaggerated.
Yes, it has developed a few quirks over the years, and most recently it
has become decidedly fussy, but it *is* still fully functional. So no
need to panic. The issue at hand right now is that the chingus that
the power cord plugs into, in the back of the machine, has come adrift
and makes only intermittant contact. So, you plug it in, maybe it
works, maybe it doesn't. I've got it established back in my room and
by creatively wedging piles of paper under the cord end, it's working
just fine.
There is a good possibility that I may *finally* consider upgrading the
9-year-old machine, although doing so will take considerable thought,
as all my applications, and indeed all my periphial hardware, would
have to go in the bin and I'd basically have to start over from
scratch, not a trivial undertaking $$$$$. It's something I will
consider carefully once I get home (mid-December).
In the meantime I'm still humming along just fine out here. But thanks
for the collective concern. :>)
Mike
