Hi guys,
Although I know of no lung specialists on this forum, we all know that
we represent a small minority of the Pantera population, and there are
quite a few doctors of various stripes who are active in the chapters.
There is an effort underway to build a new race track in Merced, CA
that will essentially replicate the long-lost and badly missed
Riverside Raceway. As usual, there is a small but vocal group of
hand-wringing pansies who are trying to spoil the fun.
There is a need for a lung specialist to testify on behalf of a worthy
cause, all expenses paid, and it comes with a free lifetime pass to the
new track!

RIVERSIDE MOTORSPORTS PARK UPDATE
Editor - the following was received from John Condren
who is heading up the effort to build a motorsports
park near Merced, CA. The project is entering the last
approval phase prior to breaking ground. John has an
immediate need which is explained below to counter
a last ditch effort by the parks opposition. If you can
help or know someone who might be able to help
contact John at jcondren at rmpracing.com.
Just reporting in on the Riverside Motorsports Park
project... and hopefully you can spread the word that
I need a “specialist” to be an expert witness.
The Report: Riverside Motorsports Park has
participated in three (3) public hearings to-date,
including the most recent one held yesterday with the
Merced County Planning Commission. We have been
the subject of two (2) votes-of-approval, each one
unanimous (5-0) in favor of the project. We have one
last hurdle... a vote by the Merced County Board of
Supervisors on Tuesday, 14 November, to certify the
Environmental Impact Report (EIR). (Note: we have
already been in front of the Supervisors once and
received a unanimous vote of approval to override an
Airport Land Use Commission issue, so things look
good.)
The Need: The opposition to the project (a local
grass-roots group called the “Merced County Citizens
Against the Raceway”) are hanging their case on air
quality issues, citing health conditions in the Central
Valley and claiming that Riverside Motorsports Park
will exacerbate asthma and cancer-related issues. We
have already presented a 6,000 page Health Risk
Assessment, completed by the San Joaquin Valley Air
Pollution Control Board that stated the motorsports
facility would have a “less than significant” effect on
air quality throughout the San Joaquin Valley. We
also have numerous other reports that identify
agricultural practices as being the larger culprit with
regards to airborne particulate and general pollution.
What I need is a respiratory specialists — preferably
an MD — that can offer 5 minutes of public comment
to the Board of Supervisors on 14 November that
asthma is not triggered by automobiles but, rather,
asthma is predominantly triggered by a host of other
factors, such as dust mites, household chemicals,
cigarette smoke, perfumes, plastics and carpeting,
exercise, etc. The emphasis of the public comment
needs to diffuse any argument made Riverside
Motorsports Park will be killing children. (Yep, that’s
their claim! They actually have said that, verbatim.)
All I need is 5 minutes. For the right person, RMP
can cover any travel costs... and they will receive a
lifetime pass!
Please pass the word on to all.
Thanx!
John “Riverside” Condren
