[DeTomaso] Tire pressure monitoring systems

Guys:

One other source for a tire pressure and air temp monitoring system is from 
the Tire Rack. Their system has a small transmitter that's banded to each 
wheel, that turns on when the tire speed exceeds 10MPH. The life of their 
battery is supposed to be 6 years or so, depending on useage. The 
transmitter provides both air pressure, and air temperture. The display 
panel can show either a digital display, or you can set it for upper and 
lower limits, both in terms of pressure and temps. The system seems to be 
very robust.

The tire shops don't like the transmitters very well, and some won't mount 
tires that have the transmitters on the wheels. But most of this "ill 
feeling" has been the result of some very fragile OEM systems, particularly 
those found on late model Corvettes. Evidently the tire guy can just look at 
them cross eyed, and they'll fail. The Tire Rack system is pretty solid, and 
once mounted, I don't think it will ever come off short of using a big 
hammer on it.

The system from the Tire Rack was about $200 when I bought mine. But that 
was a couple of years ago.
