Dear Bill, JT and Thomas,
Eureka!! JT and Thomas win the long distance gremlin diagnostic award!! The connector for the rear lights etc inside the right rear well, in front of the splash shield, was *the* problem.
I disconnected it. Inspected it. Sprayed it liberally with the electronics contact cleaner and then applied the 21st Century super trick conductivity goop--Stabilant 21, as recommended by one of our Forum members a few months back. Reconnected and ------Voila!---the turn signals are working properly.
Thanks guys, Chuck Engles

Chuck,
Is the problem the turn signals or the tail lights?
