[DeTomaso] Intake installation tips?

I thought he has been using these heads, how can it be possible that no water was getting to the radiator? Are you sure that it's just not a matter of opening the passages on the head mounting surfaces, having the right head gasket, and/or the right holes in the head gasket?

Bad news, bro.
Those are Boss 302 heads not 351C heads.
The intake face will probably seal with 351C gaskets, but your engine is
going to overheat.
The water enters the block at the front. It goes in the two holes right
behind the water pump. It goes all the way to the back, up into the heads,
and back to the front. On the 351C, the water goes back into the block and
out the water neck/thermostat. On the windsors to include the Boss 302, the
water goes into the intake and to the water neck/thermostat.
Since you have Boss 302 heads, the water isn't going back into the block, so
it's never getting back to the radiator. If you look at 351C head gaskets,
you'll see a square hole about the size of a quarter near the front. Your
heads won't have a hole there unless they've been modified to fit a 351C.
Consequently, the water will stop, and you're going to overheat. One of the
first signs will be pinging followed by boiling water.
Boss 302 intakes had a thermostat housing cast into the intake. 351C's
don't have that.
Now, as I mentioned, if the heads have been drilled on the head gasket side,
maybe they'll work. You should be able to tell by looking through the
existing water jacket hole. You could maybe stick your pinky or a piece of
wire through the hole to see if it makes it several inches below the head
gasket area. If the wire stops, so will your coolant.
The good news is the heads are probably worth more than standard 351C heads.
You could either pull them and sell them for a rebuilt 351C set of heads, or
you could drill the proper coolant holes using a head gasket as a guide.
Either way the heads will need to come off.
The other good news is once you fix this, it will run better than ever.
Will.

I hear ya, so something wacky is going on! Take a look at this photo, I
have marked the holes in red:

They were full of coolant. I thought it was weird as hell that the gasket
just covers them and that there are no corresponding holes that match up to
the intake. Let me know what you think!

Um. No.
The 351C head has a water jacket in it yes, but it is ONLY accessible from
the block side (combustion chamber side) of the head. The side facing the
intake has zero, zilch, nada, none, as in it ain't got any holes at all for
water on the intake side.
Therefore if it is leaking, it is coming from the head gasket, not an
intake gasket (because there are no coolant holes facing the intake.
Now, if that is what you meant Chris, my apologize, I didn't understand
your post properly.
