Mr. Bell (aka; Coach Potato, aka; Slacker, aka; Wanker, aka; Rocket Scientist),

I want to stomp the living crap out of you and everyone on this Slacker List. To even infer you knew Doug Mann or his mama makes me sick. I was a friend of Doug Mann and you sir are NO friend of D-Mann or his mama!

Curt Toumanian and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Doug Mann and Doug's Momma as you call her. Oh yea, I DO remember Doug....After Doug got killed I got a a call from Joe "Mojo" Moore. Mojo wanted to seriously know where to send flowers after Doug passed on. Yea, that is NO JOKE. No, I don't think it is funny either. Wotz ironic about that?

Everyone who knows Mojo or me also know we hate each other....always have and always will.....so for MOJO to be man enough to call ME took allot of courage on his part.....and even more for me to answer the phone.... but that is another story.....did D-MANN GO 220 MPH? Answer is YES. Lets stop the debate right now so all of you can get back to discussing the merits of carbon fibre brake pads.

To get back on track, after Doug's untimely death Curt (aka; Tazmanian Devil) and I went to the salvage yard near Curts house hoping to pull some parts of what was left of D-Mann's Pantera. There wasn't much left of Doug's green Pantera from the cockpit forward with the exception of a couple sandwiches on the floor that his mama made that morning. There's no doubt in my military mind that D-Mann exceeded 220 MPH.

Okay you want to go back even farther to May '97? Lets talk about Junior and his accident at Silver State. I was also there. 1st Place finish in the 140 MPH Average in a stock Pantera that much is known by some of you although MOST of you want to obsess on my finishing 2nd Place with a 160 MPH Average fullyengulfed in flames in '99.

What was not known for sure on this List until now obviously was how fast was Junior traveling as he went off the road and cartwheeled into the desert several times. I spoke to one of the Nevada Highway Patrol Officers at the Awards banquet who just happened to clock Junior as he went by Course Station #3. His radar gun had a readout of 266.031 MPH. At the awards dinner I got a standing ovation.....Junior got hospital food through a straw. But I will give the kid credit he did exceed 265 MPH.

I keep hoping you or one of the other slacker babies on this List would go out to Silver State and blow the old record out. I've waited 9 years and that's 9 years too long. I gonna feel like Roger Maris going for Babe Ruth's record. It pains me to break it but break it I shall in 2 weeks.

So old as I am I am still going to have to return to Silver State next month with a D-Mann Memorial decal on the Pantera and run the beast in excess of 200 MPH BECAUSE NONE OF YOU CRY BABIES in California, Nevada OR ANYWHERE ELSE in the country other then John Bentley and Doc Abe are joining us.

I can't find one left coast tree hugging liberal slacker-baby to unglue himself from his remote control. We all know I am too old to do this. We all know I need glasses....This race will probably kill me...I know my time is running out.... and I am sure there won't be any tears shed when the dawg gets run over....but I will rest peacefully in eternity knowing the legend of D-Mann lives on.

How quickly we forget!

The D-Mann got pretty darn close just before his untimely demise (maybe not 245mph, but 220+ is nothing to sneeze at), along with his beloved mama. Maybe if D-Mann had some $140/roll helicopter tape, he wouldn't have gotten airborn and sheared off that telephone pole.

FYI, the D-Mann Pantera spec sheet is still posted at: http://www.digitalthunder.com/dmann/spec.htm. Note however that his webpage was never updated after the final speed run.

How can you not respect an honest philosophy of "If you can't beat um, cheat um".

Yee-ha! Gimme one of those tuna fish sandwiches.
