[DeTomaso] intake manifold confusion

Chris, that 2V/small-port intake may be a better idea than using the 4V/big
port intake. Some guys who have both, have commented that in non-racing
situations, the small port intake causes the engine to run stronger at lower rpms,
with better mileage. Thus it makes for a more driveable car on real world roads.
I gave such an intake to a friend who was becoming dissatisfied with his
highly tuned Pantera. His comment after changing ONLY the intake was, 'WOW- the
thing now pulls like a freight train from a stop light, even with my Holley 750.
It falls flat at around 5200 rpms in the higher gears, but I don't spend much
time up there anyway. THANKS!' Far as I know, he's still using that intake.
What happens is, the large port mismatch between heads & intake acts exactly
like an anti-reversion plate, increasing the filling of the combustion
chambers up to the point where the mismatch turbulence begins to restrict the fill
process. I'd try it before returning it- you might like it. My 2¢- J DeRyke
