[DeTomaso] distributor roll pin

This does remind me of the first dizzy I pulled out of a stock Mustang.
It too had the spiral pin, and it would not come out. Turns out it had
been twisted by who knows what kind of torque on the oil pump drive
shaft. We ended up twisting the gear just enough to get the pin
hammered out. Once out, we found it had been fractured through a few
layers but not broken. Each end was slightly offset due to the torque,
but had not broken. I do imagine it caused the timing to be a little
off as well. We replaced it with a non-spiral roll pin.

Upon inspection, visually it looked ok, but by holding the shaft end in a soft jaw vice and twisting the pinion with a very firm grip the pin allowed movement. I removed it, drilled and reamed to 4mm dia, pressed in a sprung roll pin, being of the single coil type with a slot don it's length, and then pressed a 2mm pin inside that with it's slot 180 deg to the first. Since then it has been fine , the engine upgraded and the car frequently in track use, it has lasted some 9 years to date. Hope this helps.
