I don't see where anyone answered Goran's question.
Goran, if you go to
http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp
and click on the "Demo" it will explain that WW decreases the surface tension of water and thus decreases the size of the bubbles that form where the coolant touches the superheated areas in the engine. This increases heat transfer. They say 20-30 degrees F cooler temp will result. So WW is a surfactant, which is what a detergent is.
This actually makes sense to me and is believable--if the contact area between the coolant and the metal is more gas (steam) than liquid, heat transfer will decrease.

My experience with those coolers is that they are of very little benefit.
Good luck.
All the best, Dick Ruzzin.
I agree, WaterW does little to cooling.efficency, and glycol does not. Besides,
WW seem to have corrission
advantages and other properties. But this was not what I was thinking of. Moost
of the time we are looking at
water temperature guage, to see how hot we are running. Newer mind that the
guage needs an resistor for
proper numbers, lets say that the guage is 100% perfect, also showing fractions
of a degree.
We are running pure water in the system and under a specific cirumstances the
guage show 200 dgr. We will
now add WW, never mind the brand we just need something that change the
properties of the water, what will
happen to the number the guage is showing? Lets presume that the WW do add to
cooling, even if very little,
the point is, in what direction is the guage going?
Goran
