The Miller Econotig is a fine machine. I have its twin under the Hobart
name. I have also used the Lincoln 175 which is a very good machine.
I have a couple pieces of advice for Tig welding.
A 160 amp machine will only weld about 1/8 aluminum. If you want to weld
more like 1/4 or 3/8 plate, you will need 250 to 300 amps.
Good tig welds require a very steady hand. You push a tig and not pull
like a stick. The base metal must be very hot before adding rod or it will
be blown away from the arc. You will need to maintain a very short arc
(close to metal) to make pretty and effecient welds. Hard to do without
sticking the tungsten in the weld pool.
Use Argon for almost all welding.
Last, tig can warp metal just as easy as any other welder.
