Dear Donny and Charlie,
My experience with Aussie heads:
First engine with aussie heads was notably better than the stock 8.66:1 CR 351C 4V engine. It had an Edelbrock 2V Performer intake and an unknown cam. It *really* wheezed at about 5300 rpm. [283 hp dyno]
Second engine with Aussie heads was built with a Weiand Xclerator 2V intake plus an appropriate Comp Cams cam. Big improvement. Dyno testing shows that its power curve goes up to about 6200 rpm before dropping off. Seat-of-the-pants dyno confirms that it is a whole different street engine than the first one. [401 hp dyno]
Third engine with 4V heads, porting, Strip Dominator intake and custom cam appropriate for the head flow numbers is certainly a more potent unit than the second Aussie. [445 hp dyno] I am rebuilding it (don't ask) and plan on doing another 4V motor with a Funnel web and more port work plus hydraulic rollers. [ 475+??]
If built properly, the aussies will work and breathe above 5500 rpms, but for the bigger bang then go with a properly built 4V.
Still foolin' with engines, Chuck Engles
