[DeTomaso] [NPC] Big dollars at BJ auction

Perhaps some poor soul thought he was getting an original Pantera. The price
of some original parts lately indicates a lot more interest in stock
original Panteras.

Although many items are original on this car, a quick glance reveals it is a
stretch to call it "An original non-molested Texas car"

The blacked out trim on the windshield and front bumpers, the speakers cut
into the door panels, the aftermarket air cleaner and carb, the silly little
fake holes in the hood, the blacked out clearance lamps, aftermarket brake
master, front trunk felt missing, etc. would require correcting to bring this
car back to original, but it is probably still restorable to stock, where
most Panteras today would be hopeless for that purpose. Major expenses would
be a new hood and door panels, I guess. The stock steering wheel pads can be
very expensive now. An NOS one went for BIG bucks on ebay not long ago.
There are starting to be some sophisticated buyers for Panteras. That's not
a bad thing. We don't all have to want a stock one, but the growing interest
in them will help move our marque out of the "butchered up kit car" category
in the public eye. Modified Panteras can't have much value unless the
original is established as desireable first. I suspect most people who
admire original stock Panteras are very quiet about it because of the abuse
they will recieve from the " established Pantera group".
