All:
Let's not forget our beloved Ford Motor Co for treating the Pantera as a
bastard son. They never made any effort to promote the vehicle or keep it
in the public eye once importation stopped. If one looks in the book
detailing Ford's first 100 years, I don't remember there even being a
mention of the car. Cobras originally made in England are accepted, but
Panteras are relegated to being a foreign car rather than being recognized
as a Ford product.

Well, in '74 you could have purchased any '67 or earlier Corvette for

Agree. The bad press was the deal killer in my view. I don't think DeTomaso
did a very good job marketing to the press or worse yet, he did something to
make them very unhappy with him. Ferrari cultivated his image and they loved
him
for it. DeTomaso didn't have the cujones to make it happen. As far as the
press was concerned, he was always the interloper and that's how they
treated his
cars. But I still say, from a performance point of view, the Pantera was the
best choice, especially compared to the price.

PS In the early 70's you could get a cobra for next to nothing as well.
