Peter,

The privacy and security issue is one of the details that has caused some
delay in making
my current registry information available online.  Right now, I have been
working on dividing the data (datum?)
into categories, public and private.  I may allow the current owner the
option of making some or all
of the info public, but the default will be private for those deemed
sensitive.
Also, I have been structuring the database to provide additional access to
those (confirmed)  members that provide info,
to reward people that go to the effort to submit vehicles.

I have been accumulating notes on ideas as to how best serve "typical"
inquiries, from owners, sellers, and potential buyers.
(Anticipating requests and writing canned searches.)

A lot of thought is going into the registry service, as I want people to
benefit, and still be secure.

Speaking of paranoid, is anyone else concerned that if we have a publicly
available list of names, addresses, and vin numbers, than an enterprising
criminal will use the information to file for a duplicate pink slip, then
steal and sell the car "legally" and quickly? Dispute of ownership at that
point would be a civil matter not criminal. An suing a likely fictitious
criminal and/or a "legitimate" buyer could be expensive and tough.
