Guys,

  Just an update with some additional info on 2007 open road races still open (Nebraska ORR is full) for registration....don't be a slacker ;-]>

  1. Nevada Open (Silver State Road) May 18-20 Registration for Nevada Open and Silver State is on a new web site www.sscc.us
  I still have extra hotel rooms in Ely and Vegas if you need them

  2. Bonneville 100 June 7-9 (Shortened weekend, run on Saturday instead of Sunday). Check MKM Racing Web site www.openroadracing.com for registration and hotels

  3. Silver State September  14-16 www.sscc.us

  ==================================

The Silver State (NORC) Open Road Race is now less then 2 months away and the Bonneville 100 is less then 3 months away . If you're planning to run your Pantera or other De Tomaso automobile and your a veteran racer you should have a registration package already in the mail from SSCC or MKM Racing. If you don't let me know.

  If you're a rookie and interesting in running either the Silver State/NORC or the Bonneville 100 for the first time and have any questions let me know.

  If you are planning to run the MKM Racing Bonneville 100 in June there is no track session or qualifying session for rookies. Register, Show up, pass tech and run. Its also less $$$ registration.

  Mail in registration forms with a small deposit and make your hotel reservations ASAP if you think you are seriously planning to go....IF something breaks or comes up in the meantime you can always cancel but don't wait too long because available positions will fill up quickly.

  2. Rookies Qualifying Session - (Nevada Open & Silver State only)
  Rookies are supposed to attend a Qualifying Session which is run by the American Racing Academy at the Vegas track on Thursday before the ORR. If you have any sanctioning body race license or POCA or other club open track experience I can get you a waiver so you DO NOT need to attend the Qualifying session and you'll save the $250 fee but talk or write me BEFORE you register and send in forms.

  3,   Tech Rules & Inspection -
  Tech Inspection is pretty straight forward for all ORR sanctioning bodies. If you and your Pantera aren't planning to go faster then Touring Division speeds (95-124 MPH) all you need is a 'metal' mounted 2.5 lb BC fire extinguisher, correctly installed factory seat belts, OEM or better. Your helmet needs to now be SA2000 (nomex lined) or better, and you need gloves, long pants and long sleeved shirts and leather shoes. Tire Tech will pass "H" speed rated tires for these slower speeds....however, a word of caution here...Erik Petterson is very familiar with Pantera's. He 'prefers a "V" speed rated tire in excellent condition at a minimum for any Pantera planning to run in Grand Touring Division (140 MPH).

  And if you are planning to run in the GT group (140 MPH) make sure your 5-point harness has lap and shoulder belts that are 3" minimum...again, check the rules. All belts must be in 'as-new' condition. A NEW rule this year is GT, GS and SS division's ALL require "arm restraints".....Simpson and others all have the arm restraints in stock and they are cheap so don't whine about not showing up with out them and remember V rated tires as a minimum are required and W or Z rated are recommended.

  If you think you and the Pantera are capable of going faster and you need a roll bar for the Grand Sport (GS) or 165 MPH or anything faster make sure you read the tech rules carefully and you show up with roll bar padding or you will need to find it in Ely or Wendover to pass tech Tech also wants to see roll bars and roll cages 'double-nutted' so the nuts are visable. Your pre-tech is pretty SOP. For everyone in every class make sure you double check your wheel bearings, bushings, all hoses & clamps, etc. Your tires shouldn't have any tire flat spots, uneven wear or cracking. If your in doubt replace the tires before you leave home. I personally like to mount the tires and put them on the Pantera at least a week in advance just to ID any tires that may have a problem maintaining proper tire inflation.

  4.   Hotel/Motels for NORC & Silver State ORR's ONLY
  Sams Town is the host SilverState hotel in Vegas. All the information for hotels in Vegas and Ely are on web site......There is no host hotel or motel in Ely.  Most of us who go will pass on stopping in Vegas and go directly to Ely arriving Thursday May 17....although Larry Stock and Doc Abe and a couple others like stopping in Vegas to hang out for a night or to run the track on Thursday the day before the event.  If you do plan to run the track on Thursday make sure there is "aviailable openings" at the track....In September all the available spots on the track were filled by rookies who needed to go to their qualifying sessions. Again make your reservations EARLY you can always cancel later.  The Hotel Nevada is already full in Ely. Other hotels and motels that most of the Pantera guys stay at that still have reservations open are;
  PROSPECTOR HOTEL (USED TO BE HOLIDAY INN) 1-800-750-0557
  RAMADA INN 800-851-9526
  JAILHOUSE 800-841-5430
  MOTEL 6 800-4 MOTEL 6 OR 775-289-6671
  MAIN MOTEL 775-289-4529
  FOUR SEVENS MOTEL 888-406-3055
  IF YOU STILL CAN'T FIND A RESERVATION THERE ARE ANOTHER 10 MOTELS IN ELY TO CHOSE FROM ON SSCC WEB SITE

  On Sunday after the ORR most of the guys travel to Vegas and Sams Town Hotel & Casino for awards banquet dinner. There is also now a small awards banquet dinner in Ely Sunday night for those guys heading north to home who don't want to travel further south to Vegas.

  HOST HOTEL FOR BONNEVILLE 100 IN WENDOVER IS
  WENDOVER NUGGET HOTEL -
  800-848-7300 www.wendovernugget.com

  Right now it looks like we may have 3 or more Pantera's registering for the May ORR which is good news. Another 3 or more for the June Bonneville 100.....Better news is we will get some more registrations. Still waiting for the 1st Mangusta to finish any ORR....although 2 have tried! ;-]>

  Long term weather forecast for May and June ORR's should be perfect. I don't expect any of the snow or rain JB and I saw in Sept! I haven't yet heard what TV or media will be in attendance but expect some magazine people and the usual celebrities (RJ Gottlieb and John Schneider) again with the usual gaggle of Vettes, Vipers and Porsches.

  If you have ever wanted to run an ORR event at speed or just at touring speeds you couldn't pick a better time of the year. If you are attending the Vegas Fun Rally in April and want to leave your Pantera in Vegas I can probably also make arrangements for your Pantera storage...just let me know.

  I'm getting wood just thinking about running again. If you don't have the best time of your life running your Pantera at triple digit speeds while cops stand on the side of the road and watch you for 90 miles nothing will. ;-]>
