[Miata] Wonky hood release

That happened to me a few years ago with my ’96. IIRC I pulled the handle
out maybe ½ an inch & it just reoriented itself. I mostly remember being
surprised that it went back so easily – my first reaction to wonky crap like
that is to “Say Some Magic Words” and then go about trying to fix it.
Although I certainly understand the “Toddler Affect” in automotive
maintenance
. <G>

Hope your luck is as good as mine was

Subject: [Miata] Wonky hood release

OK, I'm not actually lazy, but with a 3 year old running around and second
on the way I don't have a lot of time to go poking around the car looking
for answers to minor nuisances these days.

Here's the thing: The hood release pull on the inside of the car is sitting
90° off from its correct orientation. I can twist it and tweak it as much
as I like but it simply returns to that position. I'm guessing that
something up front is installed wrong or misaligned, but before I start
unbolting things I'd like to have an idea of what's going on. Anyone else
experienced something like this?

Is there a way to change the orientation of the plastic pull handle on the
cable itself? I don't even know how it attaches since I've not had a chance
to look at it closely.

Thanks in advance.
