[Miata] Wonky hood release

John,

After some more reflection and a beer or three to strengthen memory cells, I
think it’s just a ball type end similar to a motorcycle cable. If you pull
the handle straight out and clamp the rear of the cable where it disappears
into it’s jacket with pliers, it will relieve the tension on the handle.
>From there you should be able to waggle the handle & get it back into
position. It will all make more sense if you can just dive in head first
with a flashlight and actually see it. Not hard at all really, just hard to
explain.

Jim

That happened to me a few years ago with my '96. IIRC I pulled the handle
out maybe ½ an inch & it just reoriented itself. I mostly remember being
surprised that it went back so easily – my first reaction to wonky crap like
that is to "Say Some Magic Words" and then go about trying to fix it.
Although I certainly understand the "Toddler Affect" in automotive
maintenance
. <G>

I've operated the hood a few times since I first noticed it getting out of
whack, full travel and return doesn't fix it, but if you mean that the
plastic handle can be removed and pulling it off the cable by 1/2" helped,
then I haven't tried that.

Any idea how the piece attaches to the cable? If it is a separate piece as
I hope and expect, then maybe I can disconnect, orient and reconnect it. Of
course I'm not sure how it ended up this way in the first place :P

Thanks for the help.
