I took a trip in my 1990 a couple of weeks ago. Grand Junction to
Durango and back, 300+ miles that include 75 mph cruising, 6 mountain
passes that are around 10,000' high, second-gear hairpins, a bit of
city driving - all of it two-up with the AC on. We got 31 mpg without
trying. Put a Hydra ECU in that thing and I'd expect to see the number
jump a bit more.

But if you're asking for more power than a stock Miata can produce,
you're going to use more fuel than a stock Miata. You need fuel to
make power, and a stock Miata never uses 250 hp worth of fuel :) So
consumption is partially up to you.
