I am somewhat confused as to the high price of Diesel automotive fuel in the USA. In most European nation diesel fuel is quite a
lot cheaper PER GALLON than petrol. In Sweden Diesel sold for automotive purposes is taxed higher than rthe same fule sold for say
heating purposes but it is, in spite of that still cheaper per gallon than petrol. Why is it priced higher in the USA?

And where are these diesel-powered Miatas being sold? Please respond with the name, address and telephone number of the Mazda dealer
that has them.
That's completely irrelevant to this discussion.
The thread began when Mark said that due to the higher price of Diesel fuel "I'm glad I don't drive a diesel", which caused me to
point out that after the price of Diesel is corrected to account for the increased efficiency of the vehicle consuming it, that it
is still less expensive, mile for mile, than gasoline. That's a fact, it's not fantasy, it doesn't matter what vehicle you are
talking about. If Mark wanted to minimize his fuel expenses he could go out and buy a VW Beetle TDi and get better mileage and a
lower total fuel cost per year than if he bought a gasoline Beetle, and a heck of a lot lower than the Miata (Beetle TDi is rated at
42 city/49 highway).
I don't care that you can't get a Diesel Miata, that wasn't the point of either person's comments. Mark said that the cost of
Diesel fuel made him glad to own a gasoline vehicle. I pointed out that the economy he was looking at was smoke and mirrors. I
didn't even bother to pursue the old saw about smell, noise and smoke, which while valid arguments in 1982, no longer carry much
weight with modern Diesel engines.
In any case, the debate was a general one about Diesels and I stand by my reply: Apples to apples, a Diesel will cost less at the
pump than the same vehicle with a gasoline engine.
