That's the problem my in-laws are running in to. They are pretty set
on a Corolla (replacing a Ford Five Hundred because of gas prices) but
you cannot find a true "entry level" Corolla on the lot. Everything is
18+. They really don't want the extra junk, they just want the low end
and to pick their color (becoming another problem).
They are probably going to lease, though, and oftentimes going with
the higher trim actually saves on the residual giving you a comparable
or even lower lease cost (this is how the Five Hundred worked out, they
saved money jumping up to the limited). So it might work to their
advantage. But the fact that it can't be found is obnoxious.
The same thing happened when I went to test drive the FJ Cruiser
when it first came out. Noone had the 4X4 stick with the black steelies
(ie base 4x4). They all had pumping stereos, the bigger alloys, $300
floor mats (the interior is hosable, who needs mats?)... and blah, blah,
blah. Yup, obnoxious. Good luck finding one anywhere near its base
price. At least around here.
Sorry... Got off on a rant there...
