Clubs in or out of the bag?

Technically a set of clubs isn't supposed to fit in a NA, but if I take the
#1 wood out and angle it in manually, I can get a compact bag of clubs into
the trunk without removing anything that came with the car (spare, battery,
trunk lid, etc.) It would be nice if you could just pop the trunk and drop
them in, but I'm not hung up on that level of convenience; it's a Miata, I'm
happy with being able to fit *anything* into the trunk ;)

I guess it depends on how determined you are to take the Miata golfing with
you. If you really want a NC and a compact bag can't be angled into the
trunk as-is, I'll bet that you can get the contents into the trunk and then
lay the bag on top, reassembling when you get to the course. Or you could
do something totally outrageous and just belt them in on the passenger's
side since I'm assuming you don't expect to fit more than one set of clubs
in the trunk and won't be bringing a golfing partner in the car with you.

I'd do some more test fitting before I gave up. I think that the Mazda
dealer is the perfect place for it too; they have the motivation of showing
you that it can be done and you have the platform on which to run your
tests.
